DIY Floral Bath Salts for Summer Hostess Giving

DIY Floral Bath Salts for Summer Hostess Giving

This post originally appeared on Glitter Guide!

As a gifting company, we’re always thinking about what people want to receive on a special occasion. As we thought about the season and hosting, gatherings and giving associated with Summertime, we were inspired to make our own homemade blend of dried floral bath salts. It’s the perfect treat that makes bath time even more delightful. Think: Naturally detoxifying salts, refreshing, good-for-you essential oils and crushed flower petals poured from a pretty glass vessel. Dreamy, right? After all, is there anything more purely indulgent—yet unquestionably good for you—than drawing a hot bath and dipping into its steamy waters for a long soak? It’s an activity that feels at once like a guilty pleasure and also a self-care essential, and that’s a pretty irresistible combination.

So, whether you’re gifting your best girls or yourself, these pretty bath salts are where it’s at. Read on for the simple DIY instructions, and plenty of fresh and summery eye candy, too.

 Supplies:

  • 2 cups salt blend (Epsom salts, sea salts)
  • 5 to 10 drops essential oils
  • 2 teaspoons carrier oil (i.e. coconut, jojoba or almond)
  • Dried florals, herbs and/or citrus rinds
  • Optional: natural cosmetic clays

Directions:

  1. Your salts are your palette! Including a variety of them (we used Dead Sea salt, Himalayan pink salt and Epsom salt) will only increase the health benefits of your bath salt mixture, not to mention make for a very pretty blend with a speckled, ombré look. If you want to step your soak up a notch, mineral-rich natural clays (like French green clay, which is what we sprinkled into the mix, or a bentonite clay) add such a beautiful color to the salt and contain extremely powerful and restorative ingredients.
  2. Pick an essential oil or create your own blend of favorites depending on what aroma profiles or benefits you are looking for. When creating a romantic floral salt soak, we love using rose or ylang ylang essential oil, as well as a dash of lavender or eucalyptus oil, which does wonders to brighten and freshen the final blend. If you love a citrus scent, grapefruit essential oil is an invigorating choice.
  3. We also love adding a moisturizing carrier oil, such as coconut oil or jojoba for an extra-luxurious and skin-softening result.
  4. Now comes the fun part of selecting your “bouquet” (aka deciding on which dried plants and florals to include). This is also completely your choice. Dried petals and bits of aromatic flowers and plants bring a beautiful textural element to your bath salt. Add rosemary, thyme or peppermint from your kitchen. For florals, we love the classic romance of dried rose petals, bits of lavender buds, dried white sage (we took apart a smudge bundle that we had lying around!) and dried chamomile flowers. When adding these larger floral bits to your blend, grind them with a mortar and pestle first. We also love adding bits of fruit rinds or peels. Lemon peels and orange rinds are naturally antibacterial and anti-inflammatory and have such energizing and refreshing scents.
  5. Mix all of your ingredients vigorously in a bowl with a spoon and fork, working any clumps of oil evenly through the salts until they are gone. Then, transfer the dry mix to a glass vessel that seals tightly. For good measure, sprinkle any larger bits of flowers you may have along the top layer.
  6. Finish with a pretty piece of twine or ribbon. Enjoy!
